Teaching Statement
As a growing music educator, my goal is to have my students learn about the value of life through music. Specialized in piano, I have been blessed to have been able to work with various students starting from kindergarteners to high schoolers in California and Boston, Massachusetts. Having been trained under accomplished tutelages, my goal as a music teacher is to forward the joy I received as a student and now as a teacher to the next generations. Not only will I be training my students to be fluent in general music history, theory, and expansions of their repertoire, I will train up my students to recognize the applications that music can have in life as well.
Through music, one can learn to recognize patterns. It trains up one’s observations sensitivity and helps maintain literacy. Music is a language. And this is the language that can helps for one to create a space to process their thoughts and emotions; for one to communicates with others, which is why I like to organize a recital for every major holiday for my students to share their music.
In the introduction of this new set of skills and language, although my approach to each individual will be different, my mission and goal is the same: to walk alongside each and every growth and process together. The reason for my different approach to every individual is due to their unique potentials and personalities. I believe that every person, regardless of their religions, skin colors, ages, nor genders have their own special touch and colors to offer to the world. And this is what I want my students to have: their unique voice to offer through their music playing. In addition to this belief, there are a few values that I hold and will instill in my students. Some ways to do so are to ask a questions that stimulates their outside of the box critical and to have clear communications. These values include, but not limited to:

-
Respect of the students towards oneself and others of their learning process.

-
Encouragement for the students to explore, fail, and succeed

-
Encouragement for the students to step out of their comfort zones in order to voice up their thoughts and creative ideas.

-
Encouragement for the students to make critical observations of the music

-
Diligence in learning and finishing up their given tasks
